Service notice
The Gneta app has closed
The coaching app stopped accepting sign-ins on 1 August 2026. If you had an account, this page is what happened to it — and what happened to your data. No marketing, no upsell, nothing to click through.
Your data
Every piece of personal data we held is being permanently deleted. None of it is kept, sold, transferred, or quietly retained “anonymised” somewhere.
Deletion completes by 31 August 2026. Until then, nothing new is collected and nothing is processed — the window exists only so you have time to export anything you want to keep.
Why
Gneta was built on Garmin data, but never on Garmin's terms. We applied for official developer access and never received it, which left us syncing your history through an unofficial route that could break whenever Garmin changed something — and periodically did. Building a service people rely on every morning, on a foundation we did not control, was never going to hold.
The other half is simpler. A small and genuinely engaged group used Gneta, and we are grateful for every one of them, but subscriptions never reached the level a coaching service needs to cover its own infrastructure, AI costs and upkeep.
So rather than let it degrade quietly — slower syncs, breakages we could not fix upstream, a product we could no longer support properly — we are closing it cleanly and putting the work into something that lasts.
What happens to your data
- Your Garmin credentials were deleted first, the moment syncing stopped. They served no purpose after that and we did not want to be holding them for a day longer.
- Everything else follows by 31 August 2026 — your account, email address, activities, daily health data, sleep and HRV history, training plans, coach conversations, payment records beyond what tax law forces us to keep. Not archived. Not “retained for analytics”. Deleted.
- Nothing was ever sold or shared with anyone. No ad networks, no data brokers, no partners. There was never a version of this where your training history was the product.
- We did not keep a private copy for ourselves. Before deleting, we computed aggregate statistics — medians and distributions across dozens of people at once — and published them. Those numbers describe a group, not a person, and cannot be traced back to anyone. The individual data they came from is gone.
- Your Garmin account is untouched. Everything here was a copy; the original stays exactly where it always was.
Take your data with you
Nothing in Gneta is data you cannot get from Garmin directly, but if you want a personal archive, now is a sensible moment. Our guide is free and has no catch:
How to export all your Garmin data →
Moving to another platform? We have honest guides for COROS, Polar and Suunto too, including what each one quietly leaves out.
If you were paying
Your subscription is cancelled and you are refunded pro rata. You do not need to do anything, and you will get a separate email confirming it. You will not be charged again. If anything looks wrong, email hello@gneta.app and we will fix it.
What Gneta becomes
The site stays, and it is turning into what it should probably have been from the start: an independent publication that tests what your training watch actually claims about you, using data instead of opinion.
Before deleting the database we computed aggregate statistics from it — drawn from 81,000 activities and 371,000 daily health summaries — and published what we found. Some of it contradicts what the watch companies imply. Some of it contradicts what we used to write here. All of it describes groups of people, never one of them.
Thank you
You trusted a stranger's website with your training history, and with your Garmin password. That is not a small thing, and the least we owe you is deleting all of it properly and saying so plainly. Sorry it did not turn into something worth keeping. The calculators stay free, the research stays public, and there is nothing left to sign up for.
